Is this the greatest thing ever?
We were gifted a very old, but very functional reel mower this weekend and I'm just plain tickled over it. I'm not sure how old it is, but it's from the day when Sears was still Sears & Roebuck. And it was made right here in Ohio, so you know it's old!
You may be wondering why I desperately wanted a reel mower.
(Put your tin foil hat down, it's nothing like that.)
We have a couple spots in the yard that are just impossible to mow with a John Deere and difficult to trim with a brush trimmer.
Like under the trampoline.
And behind the shed.
And along "The Gauntlet".
But this old reliable reel mower does the trick.
Don't worry about Isaac losing his toes in a mower accident.
This will be mom's job, but he had to try it out. Just once.
Other goodies acquired this weekend: apple crates for storing root crops and a wringer for, oh, I don't know, laundry or milling cane products!
So that was my weekend!
How was yours?

We got a reel mower and my 12 year old daughter LOVES to do the front lawn with it. Go figure.
We have a reel mower and everyone really enjoys using it so much that we have to take turns to mow the lawn. It's sort of funny having people argue over mowing because they WANT to do it.
We have a reel mower that is used almost exclusively to do our grass cutting. Our yard isn't very big, so our 10 year old divides it into thirds and does each third every week.
The only problem with the reel mower is that it won't cut down tall grass or weeds. You really have to stay on top of your grass-cutting to be most efficient with the reel mower. Grass grows so quickly down here in south Louisiana that we find ourselves often having to do "trim" work with the weedeater because an area has grown too tall for the reel mower.
Otherwise, we really enjoy our mower.
