Time on our Hands

:::big sigh:::

It would appear that come Monday, we're going to have a lot of free time on our hands. Jeff is getting laid off, with no definite time frame to be called back. He said he thinks it will be a short lay-off, as there are a number of retirements scheduled for May and that he was the very first person on the list. He's going to talk to the UAW local president today, as there's a chance he can avoid the layoff due to the language in the contract. As the EAP is a nominated position, if the company and union feel his presence is needed, they can opt to keep him on board whether his number is called up or not.

:::another big sigh:::

Normally we don't mind a short layoff....it gives us a chance to start/finish projects, catch up on seasonal work like getting the yard situated, getting the garden tended to; but with the economy the way it is and the fact there was no specified recall timeframe, it's just scary. The plan is to talk to Jason (pres.) today and see what can be done, if anything can be done. If not, well, we're going to be eatin' a lot of beans and rice. Thank Heavens for food stores.
