They threatened to do it and they finally did.
We've been downgraded.
There were a number of really great quotes from S&P that I think need repeated:
"The downgrade reflects our opinion that the ... plan that Congress and the Administration recently agreed to falls short of what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the government's medium-term debt dynamics."
Translation: You cop-outs. Your constituents give you one little job, one measly little task and you blew it. And when we say you blew it, YOU BLEW IT ROYALLY. Hope you didn't cut funding for unemployment because you'll need it after the next election.
"The effectiveness, stability, and predictability of American policy making and political institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges."
Translation: What the heck are you thinking? I mean really. My great aunt Effie has better policy making skills than your whole Congress put together. Which is saying something considering great aunt Effie buries her money in the backyard and hides her car keys from herself. You guys, you're real winners, and your POTUS too.
So what does it mean to me? Practically nothing. The sun will still rise and set and Jesus is still on the throne. But I have to laugh at the lawmakers who will have to include "Downgraded" on their resumes when they're looking for jobs in the next year or two.
That's going to stink.
Royally.
