It's been a couple tough of weeks here at the Run. You'll remember that we lost our Granny "Magawee" last month, and last week my great uncle Harold died. We've been snowed in for the better part of 2 weeks, with only one day of school in the past 10 days; in part due to sickness, but also due to bank holidays, conferences and calamity days. We're awaiting another 6-9 inches of snow today, bringing our snowpack to more than 2 feet. The kids have cabin fever, I have cabin fever and there's no end to winter in sight. We're all starting to crack under the strain. We're feeling irritable, agitated and are generally sick of seeing each other under the same 4 walls.
Time for a change of pace. Today, we're going to do something special to break up the monotony and celebrate February 15th. It's going to be our own private, personal holiday.
So today, we're having a feast. We're adding the leaf and putting our best cloth on the table. The turkey I popped in the freezer at Thanksgiving time is thawed and brining. A lovely stock is simmering away on the back burner to baste the cornbread dressing. For sides, how about some home-canned green beans heavily seasoned with onion and ham, mashed potatoes made with real butter, honeyed carrots and homemade rolls? I might even break out the home-canned pumpkin for a tart, but who will be able to eat dessert after the feast we'll be enjoying tonight?
Hopefully a change from the everyday will do the trick for all of us.

Such a great idea!!! Have fun and post pictures!
That is such a good idea and I'm sure you will have a great time with your feast. Let us know it works out for you and the cabin fever.
All that global warming is pretty tough, ain't it! Enjoy your feast!!
There are SO MANY THINGS to celebrate during this time, I can't begin to tell you. We got from Hannukah to X-mess to New Year's to Chinese New Year to Groundhog Day to Mardi Gras to Valentine's to Purim. Purim is the last day of February this year, if you're interested.
