We've Struck Water

Thank Heaven for small blessings! At long last, it would appear our water debacle has come to an end; and let me tell you, that was one expensive debacle.

The well-digger got the hole dug and the casing installed on Friday, and then the pump man freed up some time to install the new pump on Monday. So after a 24 hour chlorination period and another 5 hours of pumping, we have really good water! There's nothing that makes you feel human again like that first hot shower in your own bathroom with fresh, clear water. Bliss, I tell you.

Now for the horror; I've said it before and I'll say it again: Thank God for homeowners insurance! The little lightning bolt cost over $8,000! Between the cost of the well, pump, TV, Wii and misc. electronics, we're somewhere in the vicinity of $8,300. And thankfully, only the first $1000 is out of pocket. And while it's unfortunate that there was so much damage, it's nice that we won't have to worry about a well for another 20 or 30 years. All things considered, we got a lot of bang for our homeowners buck. Or as Jeff puts it:

"We made out like bandits."
