Oh Well.

The angst is ongoing here at the Run, but it would appear there's a light at the end of the tunnel. As you know, the old well was struck by lightning last Monday and blew the pump. Well, that's been replaced, but our water is still grey and slimy. Yesterday, a wonderful water service company came out, dumped gallons of caustic material down the well to try to clean out the debris, sludge and general foulness. Today, the water is more foul than it was yesterday.

So a week into this debacle, the well fellers have determined that our well is probably beyond repair; that there was likely damage to the well casing itself and that no amount of cleaning will improve our water quality. If things go well (ha ha), they'll be out drilling a new well on Friday. Most likely, I'll have some wowwy-zowwy pictures of big equipment and well diggery next week; along with pictures of Isaac and Mara enraptured by said diggery.

All I can say at this point in time is "Thank God for homeowners insurance!"

I didn't realize that insurance would cover that. Thank goodness but what a pain!

The insurance is covering our well because it's a casualty of the lightning strike...no different than the TV, VCR or Wii.

Had the well collapsed of old age or gone dry, it would have been out of our pocket.

And yes yes yes, thank God for insurance. The price tag on this lightning strike thus far is nearly $3K!!! Add another $3-5K for a new well...we'd been in dire straits if it were all out of pocket.

Oh, gack, you *have* had a tough week and then some. I am so sorry - but glad it is insured! Being without water, or having it generally sludge-like.... I'd have gone mad long ago.
