I'd Like To Meet The Feller...

who said lightening doesn't strike the same spot twice, as I've come to a few conclusions about that blockhead. He:

A) is a dope
B)never lived in Pleasant Township, Ohio
C)all of the above.

For the second time in 4 years we were struck by lightening. Last time it got our fence, tree and computer. This time it got our cable modem (phone and internet) and blew up our well pump. So for the last 24 hours we've stank and haven't been able to access the world!

We were sitting in the living room, watching the Penguins of Madagascar, minding our own business when the TV started sizzling and cracking, and then we heard the explosion. The crazy thing, the electric never went out. Not for a minute. So after we all changed our britches and checked the computer, that's when we discovered we had no water. Son of a gun.

We had the pump replaced last night and boy, was that a pretty penny. What stinks is that we have such yucky water here, we've had to run the pump continuously for the last 18 hours trying to get clear water. Our water last night was black. This morning it was grey. Now its just dingy. Hopefully a few more hours and we can begin to turn on the other faucets to clear the lines and eventually turn on the water softener too.

The plus side to this whole fiasco is that we've learned how much water we really use in a day, and though we have 20 gallons of drinking water in storage, it isn't nearly enough to get us through any long-term disasters. A gallon per person per day sounds like a lot til you figure in handwashing, toothbrushing, cooking, cleaning. Then it's surprising how quickly those water stores deplete. So now we know which areas of our storage and preparation need the most attention...and better to find out now than in the face of a real disaster. Right?

Best wishes,
Andrea

PS: If you're interested in what I want for Christmas, first thing on my list is a lightening rod.

My first thought was "after the first time you didn't put in a decent lightning rod?" - here's to Santa coming through on that one!

the first time we blamed it on our neighbor and his crappy big tall trees.

this time, sigh, I'm thinking God has a crazy since of humor.
