For Want of a Nail

Wikipedia defines the phrase "For want of a nail" as follows:

"For Want of a Nail" is a proverbial rhyme showing that small actions can result in large consequences.

The poem goes:
"For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail."

That's what life here at Chicky-Bit Run has been like lately, all because of a roll of toilet paper. Here's how our poem would go:

For a roll of toilet paper the carpet was flooded.
For want of carpet, the vanity removed.
For removal of vanity, the tiles came down.
For want of tiles, the border was ripped.
For want of border, the paint was ruined.
And all because of a roll of toilet paper.

Our bathroom remodeling is snowballing to say the least. Thankfully we've found a number of good deals on hardware and fixtures, so price-wise, it won't be too bad. But it's going to be a long, labor-intensive project. If you're new to our drama, Miss Mara flooded the bathroom by flushing an entire roll of toilet paper. The overflow soaked through the carpet and pad, straight through to the subfloor. We couldn't replace the carpet because of the way the vanity was situated on multiple layers of old vinyl. So we pulled out the vanity, only to find that the tiles were adhered to both the wall AND the sink. So down came the tiles. On removing the tiles, the border was ripped and had to be removed. During the removal, I scraped too hard and ruined the paint job. So 10 days later, we have no carpet, no sink, no vanity, no border, no tile backsplash. All because of one roll of toilet paper.
