After a frigid October day, we carved up old Jack this evening. Poor thing...he didn't stand a chance. It was funny to watch the kids mixed reactions to the whole thing...disgusted, interested, amused, fascinated, revolted. Isaac absolutely refused to stick his hand in the pumpkin to pull out the seeds, so he used a spoon. Mara wouldn't even get that close.
After old Jack was de-gooped, we set out to carve a face...square eyes, round nose, lots of teeth, ears and hair. No simple little Jackolantern for my kids!
Both kids participated in the carving, for better or worse, and finally he's finished. He's not an attractive Jack, not in the least, but he should keep the spooks away, right?
