It's been a busy busy week friends...here on our little homestead, we're doing our best to tie down any loose ends while our Indian Summer is hanging on. The temps are supposed to drop nearly 30 degrees in the next 2 days so it's been a mad rush to finish up before the bottom drops out. It's been such a busy and wonderful year this year. We've come so far from where we started last February or March. I never would have imagined we'd have chickens this year, nor the start of a small orchard, berry patches, a grape arbor. And now that winter is here, it's time for a well-deserved break. I'm looking forward to long evenings of sitting down with a hot cup of tea and a bit of sewing or a felted wool project.
So in the past week, we've harvested 20 gallons of apples, around 12 gallons of pears, a big ole box of walnuts, canned 18 quarts of pears, 7 quarts of applesauce, 3 quarts of greens. Spread 6 bales of straw on the freshly tilled garden. Store the front porch rockers. Emptied buckets, bins and baskets and put them up til spring. And our big project for the week....finishing up the vinyl siding on the north end of the house. Surely undoubtedly all these updates will make a difference in our heating bill this winter. After this project we move inside and begin renovating the basement making room for a wood stove and an improved pantry/bar area. Should be fun!
