Productive Day

I love it when a day comes together. What started out as a dreary, cloudy, windy day turned into a great afternoon for working on my to do list. The garden shed is painted, the chicken house is painted, 3 loaves of bread baked, got rid of a couple of adirondack chairs, AND fixed the fence so the chicky-bits can't fly the coop. What a great day!

And speaking of chicky-bits, the babes are getting so used to being around us now that they don't spook and run into the coop like they did at first. The 'big girls', the Sussex and Americauna, seem to know when we talk to them that they're either going to get out of the pen or have a great snack. I think our expedition into chickens is going to be a good thing. The kids enjoy them, we enjoy them and free eggs, well, that's just a bonus in my opinion.

The fall garden is coming along nicely. Another week or two and we'll have fresh kale, spinach, lettuce and a few peas. The carrots and a few beets are popped up, but they'll be a little while yet, same with the broccoli. It's time to pull up the remaining tomato and pepper plants as they're pretty much finished for the season. Sigh. Can't wait to start fresh next year.
