Why is it that children come up with the brightest ideas when your back is turned and your hands are full??? We're all out in the backyard this evening, hand feeding the chickens and enjoying the cool breeze when we hear "Hey Mom, watch me!" Famous last words indeed. I turn around and see my eldest progeny, seated on a tricycle at the top of the gang plank on the playground. Crap. And it isn't enough that HE was teetering on the brink, so was Darling Daughter Mara. Double crap.
I don't know if it was a desperate cry for attention, or if he's just watched 'Cars' one time too many. What ever the reason, before I could say a word, he pedals forward down the ramp. Almost immediately, he gets the idea that the whole idea was a bad idea. Thankfully, Mara came to that conclusion just a second or two earlier and climbed off just before launch. So he's accelerating down the ramp when he decides that the best option would be to reach out to each side, grab onto the rope handrails and drag himself off the tricycle. Insert sickening THUD here. He lands smack on his bottom. No broken bones, just a slightly bruised ego. Such is the life of a dare devil.
